PTC Online

At Pittsburgh Technical College, we approach online learning differently.

When you learn online at PTC, you’re immersed in strong academics and a career-focused curriculum taught by faculty, many of whom have rigorous experience in their field—just like what our students expect and receive in our on-campus classrooms. Online, you’re learning by doing and working on projects so that new skills and knowledge stick. You build on what you’re learning, as you go. This approach is at the core of what we do, and it isn’t going anywhere, whether you’re an online or on-campus student at PTC.

Before you graduate, if you are pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree, you’ll work on a capstone project that will mean partnering with an employer in your field to gain more real-world experience and insight, too. This is a required part of our curriculum and that experience belongs on your resume when it’s time for your job search.

Technical is our middle name.

We use a variety of apps to enhance your educational experience. Flipgrid, a video discussion tool, keeps discussions lively and allows you to engage with your instructor and fellow students in an innovative, even fun way. The Remind app uses text messaging to actively engage and communicate with your instructors and administrators to stay updated. Then there’s Discord, an app originally created for gamers who wanted to chat and play simultaneously. We use it for a real-time conversation to dig in, collaborate, share images and screenshots, and ask questions.

Talk to any student or alumni: We’re known for the personal attention we give to each student and that means you’re never, ever lost in the virtual crowd—this is part of our proud culture at PTC and sets us apart from large institutions that just can’t accommodate your personal learning style. Or your follow-up questions. Or your need to check in with your instructor with whatever is on your mind.

Our classrooms go where you go.

All online sessions are recorded, so if it’s not convenient for you to attend class, you can watch the session when you’re ready. We get it. Life is complicated, especially now. But your education shouldn’t be.
