DR. ALICIA B. HARVEY-SMITH HONORED WITH 2019 WOMEN OF EXCELLENCE AWARD
The New Pittsburgh Courier Recognizing Pittsburgh Technical College President
as an African American Woman of Excellence
PITTSBURGH—October 9, 2019 – The New Pittsburgh Courier is honoring Dr. Alicia B. Harvey-Smith, President and CEO of Pittsburgh Technical College (PTC), among its 2019 Women of Excellence. The award recognizes women from the Pittsburgh region who have made significant contributions to the community and business world.
“I am truly delighted and honored to be recognized among such distinguished women,” said Dr. Harvey-Smith. “I am proud to see so many women recognized for using their talents for the advancement of excellence throughout our region.”
Dr. Harvey-Smith was appointed President/CEO of PTC, effective July 1, 2019. In her role, Dr. Harvey-Smith is responsible for setting and executing the strategic direction of all aspects of the college, including academics, business and industry partnerships, teacher and learning environments, student life, and faculty, staff and student diversity. In this role, Dr. Harvey-Smith has set a strategic direction to promote a culture of excellence and accountability while removing barriers to quality education.

Dr. Harvey-Smith is a senior executive with 30 years of experience in higher education leadership, instruction, consulting and partnership development. She has served in a variety of senior positions including executive director, dean, and vice president. She was President and CEO of River Valley Community College in New Hampshire and most recently, the Executive Vice Chancellor of Lone Star College in the Houston area, one of the largest college systems in the country. Additionally, Dr. Harvey-Smith is an experienced speaker, researcher and author.
The New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Excellence program is in its 12th year of recognizing African American women who are a vital part of the Pittsburgh community. Women of Excellence are nominated by readers of The New Pittsburgh Courier. A luncheon will be held at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown Hotel on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 12pm and honorees will be featured in the December 11, 2019 edition of The New Pittsburgh Courier.
