SKAL Club
Hospitality and Culinary students should check out the Young SKAL Club as an important option for membership while at PTC. The SKAL organization is a professional organization of tourism leaders around the world promoting global tourism and friendship. With 17,000 members in 400 clubs worldwide, it is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry.
PTC students can join the local chapter of SKAL at no charge and meet fellow hospitality professionals. Each month there are meetings off campus at an upscale restaurant; these events provide student members the opportunity to network with hospitality professionals, listen to guest speakers, as well as enjoy some great food.
The local SKAL organization also sponsors scholarships. In 2016, Davionna Bailey of PTC won a $2,000 scholarship as an outstanding hospitality student.
Marisa Haney, Hospitality and Business Instructor at PTC sits on the Board of SKAL and encourages students to join. “This is an excellent organization” Ms. Haney explains. “We enjoy dinner with professionals monthly, and you can get to know one another better than with other networking associations. The SKAL motto is “doing business with friends, and it is a great way for students to meet industry decision makers who can act as mentors for their future.” “I won a SKAL Scholarship in 2006, and I can attribute much of my career success/growth to the organization.”
