Steve White
Class of 2007, Business Administration
Current Job Title: Director of Outside Operations
Current Employer: Montour Heights Country Club
Please provide a brief job description:
In my position I handle all Monday golf outings throughout the season from setting up to scoring. On a daily basis I make sure that the outside staff is scheduled properly and working to maximum efficiency to provide a great experience for all of our members. Within the golf shop, I handle everything from common sales to the receiving and pricing of our inventory as it arrives.
Explain any interesting projects that you have worked on.
Every Monday outing is its own unique and challenging project ranging from 60 people to 200 people.
What did you learn at PTC that still inspires you to this day?
While at PTC, the business administration classes helped me to prepare to handle all of our day-to-day business interactions. While I am mainly in business now, the safety and security portion of my studies has also helped me prepare. I often help and talk to 100 people a day and, within those classes, we learned how to assess situations and read people, and also how to act according to the information that we have. Every interaction with every person can be different, from the stressed to the angry to the happy individual. I can properly react to all individuals attending our Club.
What or who was your biggest influencer as a PTC student?
I would have to say that my entire class was my motivation. At the time, we were one team that had to work together and push each other to be better—also Melissa Knoth, who tirelessly handles all of the student-related activities within PTC. My friends and I worked in the tutoring center near Melissa and often volunteered to help her set up for those events. Just seeing someone push so hard, no matter what, to make sure that everything was just right for someone else is very motivating.
Is there anything else that you would like to share? Personal accomplishments?
While PTC gave me an education, it also gave me more than I ever could have dreamed. I met my wife Alicia (Brickell) White there and we now have a beautiful family together with our two-year-old daughter Lucy.
