Opening doors (and eyes) with an IT degree.

Something interesting happens on your journey to an Information Technology (IT) degree. Your skills evolve, but so do your career plans. Throughout your education at PTC, you’ll have at least one “a-ha!” moment about career paths you can take, once you graduate. Just ask these 3rd and 5th quarter IT students.
They recently found themselves at a Managed Service Provider (MSP) and learned the role that an MSP plays in the IT marketplace. Wolf Consulting is a well-known business in Pittsburgh that helps clients run and manage their back-end systems. It’s rare for a college to visit a service provider and see, first-hand, how it functions.
Michael Hodder, a PTC faculty member for the School of Information Systems and Technology, joined the students on their visit and noted, “My students found the experience at Wolf Consulting to be very informative. It really showed them a very honest view of the inner-workings of an MSP. “
During their visit, they gained a new understanding of what an MSP does and what it takes to be a successful employee in the MSP space. They also met PTC alumni who work there, opening their eyes to the opportunities at Wolf Consulting, and elsewhere, for internships and full-time positions after graduation.
Mr. Hodder added, “Wolf Consulting provided a very meaningful and honest discussion on all aspects of Service Management for our students, and I applaud their culture of transparency in regards to career tracking and general honesty with their employees and customers.” It’s visits like these that open up doors to our students’ successful futures.
