Game on at the Weld-Off Competition
14 schools. 44 students. Sparks flying in a room chock-full of concentration. PTC hosted the 39th Annual Weld-Off Competition in our Energy Technology Center. The competition showcased the dedicated students in the art and science of welding in the Pittsburgh section of the American Welding Society.
High school and postsecondary students welded a structural plate and were judged on technique, safety, and a written test to compete for first, second, and third place. All students who participated were recognized by the American Welding Society for the quality of workmanship that was worthy of their being selected to participate. Students passing their qualification test plates will be given their certification paperwork for each test position they pass.
Winners of the competition will be announced at the Steamfitters ceremony in 2020. Good luck to all contestants, including our four PTC students who were selected to participate.
